You’re not understanding the point of the policy.
It’s not to sensor self-harmers or to take away their platform for talking about what they’re going through. That’s important. People can’t get through life without being open about their thoughts and feelings. It’s to get rid of those who are using tumblr for other means (i.e. posting photos of their cuts, making typographies that glorify self-harm, etc.).
I have no doubts that after making a post about wanting to cut, that another tumblr stepped up and tried to talk them out of it. That’s great. That’s what people should always be doing. But that’s not always the case which is why this policy is important.
